The 10-minute yearly setup ritual

You do not need a productivity system. You need ten minutes and a pen. Here is the ritual we recommend the day your poster arrives.

Minute 1 to 3: The immovables

Fill in everything that cannot move. Birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, the wedding you already said yes to. These are the load-bearing walls of your year. Write them in your neatest handwriting, because you will look at them two hundred times.

Minute 4 to 6: The big rocks

Now the three to five things that actually define the year. The marathon. The product launch. The renovation. Each one gets a start date and an end date, and a line of boxes between them if you are feeling fancy. Suddenly April stops being a surprise.

Minute 7 to 9: The recurring small stuff

Dentist every six months. Taxes in spring. The car inspection you forget every single year. Put them in now, in pencil if you must, and let future-you feel smug.

Minute 10: Step back

Look at the wall. The whole year, one glance. Gaps are visible now, so are collisions. Move things while moving them is free.

That is it. Ten minutes, and the year stops being a fog. The poster does not manage your time. It just refuses to let you not see it.
